Reno Events This Weekend May 29-31, 2026 — Reno River Festival, Shucked, Sweat, NGHTMRE, Kyle Gass & the Aces Homestand
By Ask Reno
The Reno River Festival weekend is here. The 25th-anniversary edition of the festival that built Reno's whitewater identity takes over Idlewild Park Friday through Sunday — kayak comp on the man-made wave, vendor village, food and beer tents, three days of music on the riverside stages. Pair it with the Broadway-touring Shucked at the Pioneer Center, the Pulitzer-winning Sweat opening at Reno Little Theater, NGHTMRE at Cargo, Kyle Gass Band at Cypress, Legion Sports Fest filling the Reno Ballroom + Reno Events Center downtown, and a six-game Reno Aces homestand vs. the Sacramento River Cats.
Last weekend was the Drifters Music Festival / GSR concert run weekend — see the May 22-25 recap. This post covers May 29-31.

The Tony-nominated bluegrass musical is in town through Sunday. Friday's performance is at 8 PM — the only single performance of the weekend. The show that makes corn jokes for two hours and somehow earns standing ovations.

Quick Picks by Vibe
- Outdoor / festival: River Festival Sat → grilled food on the lawn → late-afternoon Aces game on Sunday.
- Broadway weekend: Shucked Fri evening → Sweat Sat night → Shucked Sun matinee. The Pioneer / RLT walking radius is the best one-day theater stop in the state.
- Concert weekend: Kyle Gass Sat early at Cypress → NGHTMRE Sat late at Cargo. Walking distance between the two if you're staying downtown.
- Family: River Festival Sat morning → Aces Sun day game (4:05) → river-path walk home.
- Cheap weekend: River Festival is free. $10 Aces lawn seats. River Festival food is reasonable. You could do a full weekend under $80.
Reno Aces — Full Homestand vs. Sacramento
The Aces are home all week (Tue May 26 – Sun May 31) for a six-game series vs. the Sacramento River Cats. Tue 11:05 AM (Taco Tuesday + Education Day, day game), Wed 6:05 PM (WILD Wednesday), Thu 6:05 PM (Throwback Thursday), Fri 6:35 PM (Princess Night + Fireworks), Sat 6:35 PM (Harry Potter Night), Sun 1:05 PM (Family Sunday + Dog Day). Tickets at milb.com/reno.
Lake Tahoe — Mid-Spring, Quiet Window
Memorial Day weekend traffic peaked last weekend. This weekend Tahoe is substantially calmer — the post-holiday week is one of the best windows of the year for a Tahoe day trip. Sand Harbor parking still fills by noon Saturday, but the I-80 backup is far smaller than last week. Mt. Rose Highway to Incline is clean.
Looking Ahead — Next Weekend (June 5-7)
The momentum keeps going. The Grand Sierra runs another big concert week: The HU & Apocalyptica (with The Rasmus) Thursday June 4, Banda MS Saturday June 6, Juvenile & the 400 Degreez Band Sunday June 7. Plus the Nevada State Fair returns to Reno-Sparks for the first time in 16 years, June 11-13. See our June 5-7 weekend guide for the full breakdown.
